Struggle Street is a television program parodied in Episode 42. It features cattle farmer, Tom, who has never read a Guardian article, and subsequently doesn’t know the 2019 film 'Joker' is problematic (nor the casting of Scarlett Johansson in 'Ghost in the Shell’ nor the the recently published misogynistic version of Spider-Woman). Tom claims he was not paying attention was instead ‘probably in my basement with a gun in my mouth’ due to a combination of the drought and being priced out of the dairy market by supermarket chains.
When told that if he doesn’t focus on the ‘real issues’ then perhaps he should kill himself, Tom instead kills the interviewer and pronounces himself ‘The Australian Joker’ saying 'I'm the Joker, baby!'.
